Genoa, 22 Aug. (LaPresse) – Santa Margherita Ligure is in mourning following the death, at the age of 93, of Rosellina Archinto, a pioneer of children’s publishing and founder of Emme Edizioni, Casa Editrice Archinto and Babalibri. The latter remembers her on its social media channels: “Rosellina Archinto has brought to a close a life lived with extraordinary intensity and unshakeable faith in the written word and in the culture of reading. She decided that children could be given beautiful books, and she was right for sixty years. She published the books she believed in, the authors and the titles that inspired her, driven by an infallible instinct and a proud independence”. “In 1966,” continues the publisher’s post, “she began her adventure in the publishing world with the launch of Emme Edizioni, which immediately stood out for the graphic quality of its picture books, the originality of its stories, and the inclusion in its catalogue of great masters such as Leo Lionni, Iela Mari, Maurice Sendak, Tomi Ungerer, Lele Luzzati and many others. In 1986, Archinto Editore was founded, and for forty years a diverse array of authors from all corners of the world enriched its catalogue. In 1999, in a co-publication with L’école des loisirs, she created Babalibri, which was later entrusted to the care of her daughter Francesca. ‘I was born by the sea,’ she would repeat with pride, and a gaze towards open horizons always guided her choices.” “We express our deep sorrow at her passing,” the mayor of Santa Margherita, Guglielmo Caversazio, told LaPresse, “and our thoughts are also with her family. She leaves a huge void in the cultural scene of the town and the wider region.”
