Music, farewell to Janie Bradford Hobbs: historic figure at ‘Motown’

Milan, Aug. 22 (LaPresse) – Janie Bradford Hobbs, one of the first songwriters at ‘Motown’, has died at the age of 87. She contributed to writing hits such as ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’ and ‘Too Busy Thinking About My Baby’. Her family announced Saturday that she died after a long illness in a Los Angeles hospital. Bradford Hobbs joined Motown as a receptionist in 1958. Together with Gordy, she wrote ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’. The song was recorded in 1959 by Barrett Strong and immediately became a hit, before being covered by the Beatles. ‘Too Busy Thinking About My Baby’ was first recorded by the Temptations and later became a hit for Marvin Gaye.
