(LaPresse) – France’s Arthur Fils spoiled the party for American Frances Tiafoe, who was beaten for the second time in a final in three years, and celebrated his first Masters 1000 title at the Cincinnati Open. Fils, who had won their only previous meeting – in the third round of last year’s Miami Masters 1000 – triumphed 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. Thanks to this result, he will rise to number 11 in the world rankings: his new career-high ranking. The first Frenchman to be added to the roll of honour in Cincinnati since Guy Forget in 1991, Fils is the youngest of the five “Bleus” to have won at least one Masters 1000 title in his career. The seventh player born in the 2000s to have won a title in this category of tournaments, he has become the sixth player to hold at least two ATP trophies in 2026.
