Rome, 25 Aug. (LaPresse) – Sigfrido Ranucci is to leave *Report*, and the programme is to adopt a new format. According to information obtained by LaPresse from RAI sources, these are the decisions currently being considered by senior management at Viale Mazzini, who are due to meet today to decide the fate of Ranucci and *Report*. Ranucci’s fate, however, appears to be sealed: the journalist and deputy director of Rai will certainly be removed from presenting the programme. From an editorial perspective, Rai has ruled out the possibility of Ranucci remaining at the helm of *Report* on the grounds of ‘expediency’. And the decision, according to reports, is not, at this stage, influenced by the legal case involving the journalist following the attack on him and the arrest of Valter Lavitola as the instigator. There is another dimension to the matter, namely the disciplinary one. This is linked – though not exclusively – to the recommendations issued by the Ethics Committee. As for Ranucci’s future at Rai, the journalist is expected to receive three job offers commensurate with his professional standing. Regarding the hosting of *Report*, however, after also sounding out Milena Gabanelli, the current frontrunners are Peter Gomez – though the fact that he is currently editor-in-chief of a news outlet, *Ilfattoquotidiano.it*, could prove an obstacle – Riccardo Iacona and Federico Ruffo. However, the most plausible scenario is that the programme will undergo a change in format as well. Rai is keen on Report’s ‘in-house’ model and would therefore like to make the most of the many professionals working on it, including some young people considered to be very promising. Consequently, there will be no ‘official’ presenter, but investigations launched on a case-by-case basis by one or more of the programme’s staff members.
