Madrid (Spain), 25 Aug. (LaPresse) – Two activists, one Canadian and one German, have been arrested in Ceuta. This was confirmed by the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who stated that the two had incited ‘violent groups’ who were reacting aggressively towards law enforcement officers present on Benítez beach. The two “disobeyed and resisted” the officers’ orders, the minister said at a press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting. The activists’ arrest had been reported by the organisation No Name Kitchen in a statement calling for their immediate release, as they were volunteers for the association “with a long history of humanitarian work in Ceuta”. The organisation provided a completely different account to that of Marlaska, stating that the two had filmed National Police officers on their mobile phones as they “beat people with batons” on the beach, and that they were subsequently handcuffed “without any justification” after their phones had been confiscated.
