Rome, 25 Aug. (LaPresse) – The music world is in mourning. Country music icon Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80. The news was announced by her nephew, Brian Seaver, in a video posted on Instagram. “My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and today, on behalf of the Parton and Owens families, I announce the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. This video announcement is something Dolly asked me to do years ago. It is an honour, mixed with immense pride and great sadness. But the sadness is ours, not Dolly’s. Dolly lived in the light and is now in the arms of Jesus, surely welcomed by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched over her and longed to meet her in heaven.” Dolly Parton is the best-selling female country music artist of all time, with over 160 million albums sold worldwide. Her debut album was *Hello, I’m Dolly* in 1967, and since then she has released a string of hits, including “I Will Always Love You”, “9 to 5” and “Jolene”. Dolly Parton was born in Pittman Centre, Tennessee, in 1946. She had eleven siblings and the family was poor. “We never went hungry, but sometimes we didn’t have enough to eat,” she told People magazine in 1977. At the age of six, she began playing her first guitar and singing in her grandfather’s church. She started writing songs a year later.
