Rome, Aug. 26 (LaPresse) – The FIGC has decided to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for the FIFA presidency election scheduled for March 2027. “This choice is intended to clearly and transparently express the position of the FIGC, in full agreement with UEFA and its president Aleksander Ceferin, regarding the recent initiatives promoted by the FIFA president on the governance and development of international competitions,” the Italian Football Federation said in a statement. “We will continue to work alongside UEFA and the other European federations to promote an idea of football based on merit, solidarity, sustainability and the centrality of fans,” said FIGC president Giovanni Malagò. “We identify with a model of dialogue, listening and shared responsibility that has so far allowed football to grow, innovate and at the same time defend its founding principles.”
