Born in Genoa in 1935 but raised in Cortina d’Ampezzo, where her family had moved to escape the bombings of the Second World War, Carla Marchelli established herself as one of the most versatile and eclectic skiers of her generation, making history for the Italian Ski Federation (FISI) and the Italian national team. Holding an absolute world record for one month, in January 1957, she won every world-renowned race and discipline in which she competed: SDS Grindelwald (D-SG-SL); Arlberg-Kandahar in St. Anton (D-SL); Bad Gastein pre-World Championship trials (D-SG-SL). The Italian Winter Sports Federation “extends its deepest sympathies to the family at this time of grief”.
