(LaPresse) – To curb the wave of bag-snatching and muggings that is plaguing the area, the Prefecture of Rome has issued a new security measure, adding the Imperial Forums and the Capitoline Hill to the areas under heightened surveillance, the so-called ‘red zone’. The Flavian Amphitheatre has thus officially become a protected area following police operations carried out over the summer to curb the disturbances caused by youth gangs and hooligans. The measure became essential after repeated incidents of violence in the area, including an attack on a Rome Capital police patrol. The measure also extends the surveillance perimeter to the Esquilino and San Lorenzo districts, as well as Valle Aurelia. The provision, which came into force on 24 August for a period of four months, also covers the Colosseo station on metro line C.
