Madrid (Spain), Aug. 28 (LaPresse) – Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said that around 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta following the mass entry that took place at the end of July. The Spanish government had previously reported that between 10% and 5% of the migrants who entered from Morocco had remained in the autonomous city. Speaking before the Interior Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies, Marlaska said it was estimated that around 72,000 people had entered the enclave, while stressing that it is difficult to determine the exact number. The minister, as Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had already said, argued that the mass arrival of people from Morocco was an attack on Spain’s territorial integrity and that it cannot be compared with the usual migratory flows. “The proof,” he said, “is the rapid return to Morocco of the majority of the people who arrived” in Ceuta.
