(LaPresse) – Iran intends to strengthen relations with Muslim countries, and in particular with its neighbouring states, whilst also aiming for greater economic cooperation across the entire Islamic world. This was stated by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as reported by the Meher news agency and the Iranian media. Speaking at a meeting with participants at the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity, Araghchi stated that the recent conflict had prompted several countries in the region to reconsider the role of US military bases on their territories. “They have realised that the United States is primarily seeking to support the Zionist regime, rather than to defend them,” said the minister, arguing that several countries have come to the conclusion that they cannot rely solely on Washington for their security. According to Araghchi, this situation is fostering greater regional cooperation. “We seek good-neighbourly relations with our neighbours and appropriate, constructive relations with all the countries of West Asia,” he said. The minister specifically mentioned Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan among the countries with which Tehran intends to deepen relations on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests.
