Frankfurt (Germany), 29 Aug. (LaPresse) – The Russian military leadership is reported to have been tasked by the Kremlin with drawing up various scenarios for a possible offensive in the directions of Kyiv and Chernihiv. This was stated by Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of the Office of the Ukrainian President, as reported by RBC Ukraine. “We have indeed received intelligence information, verified by several sources, according to which the military leadership of the Russian Armed Forces has been tasked by the political leadership with planning various options for an operation of this kind in the directions of Kyiv and Chernihiv,” said Palisa. The representative of the Ukrainian presidency clarified that, at present, this involves solely the planning and preparation of possible scenarios and not the actual launch of an offensive operation. Kyiv, he added, has already drawn up possible scenarios for response, defence and countermeasures. At present, however, no build-up of a Russian offensive force in either direction has been detected. “The main objective remains to prevent the conditions from arising that would allow Russian troops to launch offensive operations,” Palisa emphasised. Meanwhile, Russia continues to advance in various sectors of the front, particularly in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, whilst Ukrainian forces are conducting localised counter-attacks. According to the Institute for the Study of War, in recent days the Ukrainian army has managed to repel a number of Russian attacks in the areas of Kupiansk, Borova and Lyman.
