She now holds all the track records from 1,500 to 10,000 metres. The Italian star has put the exclamation mark on an exceptional season with this latest feat at the Swiss meeting: she has improved on the mark set in 2024 by Sintayehu Vissa (3:58.11 at the Paris Games) by over half a second, a time she had already come within four hundredths of last year (3:58.15 in Rovereto). She achieved this by winning with her usual magnificent finish – the burst of speed 200 metres from the line when she found a gap to take the lead and launch her sprint. In the race led by the American pacemaker Carlee Hansen (split times of 1:02.94 and 2:06.00), the Fiamme Azzurre athlete found herself boxed in at the start of the final lap, with some contact behind the other American, Addison Wiley, who then finished well adrift in second place in 3:58.96 after the Italian’s surge.
