Turin, 31 Aug. (LaPresse) – Novak Djokovic’s campaign at the US Open has already come to an end. The Serbian champion was defeated in his opening match by Argentina’s Mariano Navone, thus bowing out in the first round for the first time at the Grand Slam tournament where he has reached more men’s singles finals than anyone else. The Serbian lost 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 after leading 2-1 on serve in the fourth set, in a match lasting four hours and 36 minutes. Djokovic had not lost in his opening round of a Grand Slam since the 2006 Australian Open against Paul Goldstein.
