Frankfurt (Germany), 1 Sept. (LaPresse) – Iran will respond immediately if the United States fulfils the commitments set out in the interim agreement signed in June. This was stated by the Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian. The president made these remarks during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, according to reports by the ISNA news agency. “Obviously, the United States’ breach of its obligations has prompted a proportionate response from Iran, but if the United States returns to complying with its obligations under the memorandum of understanding, Iran will reciprocate immediately,” said Pezeshkian, emphasising that “Unlike the United States, my country has an impeccable record of honouring its international obligations and treaties and has always acted in accordance with the principles governing international law.” The memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran on 17 June expired on 17 August. The agreement was intended to facilitate peace negotiations and included provisions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which had become a critical flashpoint in the conflict.
