Madrid (Spain), 1 September (LaPresse) – Since the start of the crisis in Ceuta, 23 cases of sexual assault against migrants have been reported in the autonomous city, nine of which involved minors aged between 14 and 17. According to figures from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, updated on Monday, five of these cases involved rape. Of the eight alleged perpetrators identified, four are Moroccan nationals, three are Spanish and one is Belgian. All the victims are women, with the exception of one man from the LGBTQ+ community. “The situation is worrying; there is almost one sexual assault a day,” warned Ceuta’s chief prosecutor, Silvia Rojas, in an interview with El País. Rojas stressed that the autonomous city is on the brink of collapse and that the only solution to ease the pressure on Ceuta’s judicial system is to transfer the minors to mainland Spain.
