Milan, 1 September (LaPresse) – The committee for the Federal Congress “was set up with a single aim: to secure the convening of the Northern League’s Federal Congress”. This was stated to LaPresse by former Northern League MP Gianluca Pini, who is the chairman of the committee “formally established and registered” in Forlì on 28 August. “There has been no Congress for nine years; for six years there has been a commissioner who is utterly and deliberately powerless when it comes to the statutory obligations to convene the Congress, who grants no political scope whatsoever to party members, who does not allow political activities to be carried out as the ‘ Northern League’, but whose only action has been to lend the League’s symbol to Salvini free of charge and for the love of God, to carry out a cosmetic makeover on his personal League, which is called the ‘Salvini League’ – which is something else entirely,” adds Pini. “In the last 48 to 72 hours, a few hundred members have joined spontaneously, through word of mouth. We’re moving forward. There are spontaneous sign-ups. There are no costs, nothing at all. It’s a forum for widespread interests linked to securing the Northern League Congress,” he concludes.
