Turin, 1 September (LaPresse) – Gianmarco Tamberi is now also a Mediterranean Games champion. A jump of 2.25 in his first attempt was enough to secure the title in the men’s high jump in Taranto, before he unsuccessfully attempted to break the world-leading mark of 2.35 for the year. The Italian secured victory in the event he had last competed in 13 years ago (finishing sixth in Mersin) with just two jumps (2.15 and then 2.25). Joining the European, World and Olympic champion from the Marche region on the podium were Greece’s Antonios Merlos (silver with 2.19) and Christian Falocchi (bronze with 2.15).
