Milan, 2 September (LaPresse) – A magnificent Lorenzo Sonego made life difficult for Alex Zverev in their first-round match at the US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the year. Facing the number one seed, the 31-year-old from Turin put up a fight for four hours and 55 minutes before succumbing in the fifth set. The set scores were 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(9), 7-5, 6-4 in Zverev’s favour. The third, fourth and fifth sets each lasted over an hour. In the next round, the German – a finalist on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows in 2020 – will face France’s Quentin Halys.
