Rome, Sept. 2 (LaPresse) — Israel will not withdraw from the territory it controls in the Gaza Strip, while continuing to pursue the disarmament of Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made this statement. “We control the territory here,” Netanyahu said during a visit near the Yellow Line in Gaza, in a video message in Hebrew released by his office and quoted by The Times of Israel. The Likud leader also emphasized that the Israeli border cities of Ashkelon, Sderot, Netivot, and several kibbutzim are visible “in every direction” from the guard post. “We will not withdraw. We are staying on this line. We control 60% of the Strip. And there is still more to do, because we are eliminating the terrorists who threaten us: we do this day after day,” he said, referring to Monday’s Israeli strike against a senior Hamas commander.
