The German diplomat was informed that the Russian side firmly rejects the completely unfounded accusations made by Berlin regarding Russia’s involvement in the incident that allegedly took place at Leipzig Airport,” reads the statement released by the ministry. During the meeting, the German side was also informed that Moscow considers the federal government’s decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin “a further step toward the complete destruction of the potential for bilateral relations built up over many generations of Russian and German politicians and diplomats.” According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, “Berlin has deliberately engaged in an open provocation aimed at escalating tensions in Russian-German relations.” “The actions of the German authorities will be met with a harsh response,” the ministry emphasized.
