Rita Dalla Chiesa made these remarks during the commemorations for the Via Carini massacre in Palermo, in which General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, his wife Emanuela Setti Carraro and bodyguard Domenico Russo were killed. “ “My special thanks go to Mayor Sala and Minister Nordio, who, despite their busy schedules, made a point of being here,” she added. “But above all, to all the Carabinieri, the police officers, the Guardia di Finanza and the Red Cross volunteers who have rallied around us. Milan is a city where we spent some wonderful, and sadly irreplaceable, years. Where the memory of my father remains strong; it is still very much alive amongst the people of the city, who have never forgotten what he did for them and for the whole of Italy during the period of terrorism. With him, Milan felt safe and continues to say, ‘General Dalla Chiesa is General Dalla Chiesa’. “But as a daughter, and also as a Member of Parliament for Forza Italia, I must say that perhaps I would have expected a greater presence from my party,” she continued. “There was no one there. The Mafia is also fought with the courage to be there, despite everything. On days like these, for certain battles that must be fought every day, we should all be on the same side. The personal bonds and respect for a man whom I no longer have as a father, and whom Italy no longer has as a general, I believe must be held in much higher regard.
