Rome, Sept. 5 (LaPresse) – On motorways, the average self-service gasoline price has reached the second-highest historical record ever recorded in Italy, while served diesel at some stations has widely exceeded the psychological threshold of 2.7 euros per litre. Codacons denounced this following the new data released today by Mimit. With an average of 2.138 euros per litre on motorways, gasoline has surpassed the second-highest average price ever reached during the week of March 21, 2022, when a litre of gasoline cost 2.137 euros per litre, and is getting ever closer to Italy’s all-time record of 2.184 euros per litre, reached on March 14, 2022, Codacons analyses. As for diesel, the increase since July 1 on the ordinary network, despite the cut in excise duties, amounts to 28 euro cents per litre, with an additional cost of +14 euros per full tank. If today’s served diesel prices are then analysed, on motorways the psychological threshold of 2.7 euros per litre has been exceeded on the A4 Milan-Brescia, where a litre of diesel costs 2.734 euros, while gasoline costs 2.639 euros per litre. In light of these figures, it is clear that the cut in excise duties on diesel alone and by just 17 euro cents until September 10 is a drop in the ocean: we are facing a real emergency and the government must immediately adopt emergency measures to avert what is set to become an economic catastrophe, Codacons concludes.
