Frankfurt (Germany), 6 Sept. (LaPresse) – The AfD has won a clear victory in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt, according to the first projection released by ARD as polling stations closed. According to Infratest dimap, the AfD has secured 44.5 per cent of the vote, more than double the 20.8 per cent it achieved in the 2021 election. This is the best result the AfD has ever achieved in a regional election in Germany. A long way behind is the CDU led by Minister-President Sven Schulze, with 18.5 per cent. For the CDU, this is a historically poor result: in 2021, when the state was led by Reiner Haseloff, it secured 37.1 per cent of the vote. In third place is Die Linke with 9.5 per cent, followed by the Greens with 9 per cent and the SPD with 8 per cent. For the SPD, too, this looks set to be its worst-ever result in the state: in 2021, it had secured 8.4 per cent. The BSW stands at 5 per cent and must therefore still secure a seat in the Landtag, whilst the FDP stands at 2 per cent and would be excluded from the regional parliament. The figures are still provisional and may change with subsequent projections and as the votes are counted.
