(LaPresse) – The Italian doubles pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori secured their second victory, qualifying for the last 16 of the US Open with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Belgian-Dutch duo of Sander Gille and Sem Verbeek. The No. 4 seeds, having saved three break points in the first game, found consistency and effectiveness on serve (80 per cent first serves in with 86 per cent of points won on them), breaking serve two games later and leaving their opponents with no further chances. “We were really solid today; we played a great match against a tricky pair. We’d studied them very well; we knew what to do. We secured two breaks by playing well; on serve, we always held our ground with authority, so this bodes very well indeed,” Vavassori told SuperTennis. “We made very few unforced errors. I had two double faults, but during the rallies we gave away very little; we made them work hard, especially on the return. We conceded very little today and, in my opinion, controlled the match from the start,” added Bolelli.
