An investigation published by Haaretz reports this, saying that then-Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel had also informed Netanyahu a few days before the attack about preparations for a “major operation.” Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett confirmed that he considers the report concerning bin Zayed to be authentic. “I tell you that I know this fact is true,” he said in an interview with broadcaster 103FM. According to Haaretz, the Emirati president had a 45-minute phone conversation with Netanyahu, during which he expressed concern about an operation planned by then-Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, warning that it could cause a high number of casualties, destabilize the region and put the Abraham Accords at risk. Bennett accused Netanyahu of failing to act despite the warnings. “Netanyahu led us blindly toward this terrible disaster,” he said, arguing that the then-prime minister was “deeply immersed in his conception that Hamas was an asset.” According to Bennett, Netanyahu bears “direct responsibility” for the disaster, in addition to the political responsibility arising from his position as prime minister.
