According to the CGT trade union, the protest was sparked by management’s instructions, which allegedly restricted the presence of female staff during a visit by a Hindu delegation on Saturday. Diane Davoine, a CGT representative, described the instructions as “unacceptable” and reported that discontent among staff had grown after management allegedly asked to limit the presence of women during the visit by the delegation from the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, a Hindu religious organisation. The organisation apologised for any inconvenience caused by the visit. The company that manages the Eiffel Tower has not commented on the matter. The Mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, has announced an investigation, emphasising that gender equality must be guaranteed “everywhere in the city”.
