(LaPresse/AP) – US President Donald Trump is set to mark the 25th anniversary of the 11 September attacks by attending a ceremony at the Pentagon in memory of the victims who lost their lives when al-Qaeda militants hijacked aeroplanes and killed nearly 3,000 people in three different locations, upending US foreign policy and national security. This is the second year running that Trump has marked the day at the Pentagon. The president, a native of New York, last attended the ceremony at Ground Zero in 2024. Vice-President JD Vance will attend the commemoration in New York alongside former presidents, whilst other administration officials will travel to the ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Vance had planned to be in New York for the anniversary last year as well, but instead flew to Salt Lake City to be with Charlie Kirk’s family following the assassination of the conservative activist.
