Rome, 12 Sept. (LaPresse) – Marc Marquez has won the sprint race at the San Marino Grand Prix, the fourteenth round of the MotoGP World Championship. The factory Ducati rider secured his sixth victory of the season in the ‘short’ race, finishing ahead of Marco Bezzecchi’s Aprilia, who started from pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying. The race was decided at the first corner, with the Spaniard capitalising on a better start to position himself ahead of the Rimini-born rider at the first braking point; Bezzecchi was unable to keep up with the nine-time world champion in the following laps, and Marquez managed the race in the closing stages to prevent Bezzecchi from mounting a comeback. Third place went to the Spaniard Jorge Martín, the World Championship leader riding the other Aprilia, who finished ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio’s VR46 Ducati. Martín retains the lead in the standings, moving up to 263 points, whilst Márquez closes the gap to 249 points and Bezzecchi moves up to 241 points.
