(LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that the planned agreement between Tehran and Oman on the management of the Strait of Hormuz will not lead to the reopening of the waterway. Speaking to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Araghchi stated that Iran “will provide the participating countries with the details of the agreement with Oman and maps showing the new route” during a meeting with the Gulf states to be held tomorrow in the Omani capital, but the agreement does not indicate “in any way” that the Strait will be reopened, as Tehran “still expects the United States to honour the commitments made in the 60-day memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad last June”, he said. Bahrain stated on Saturday that it would not attend the meeting in light of the recent attacks in the Gulf.
