(LaPresse) – Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has criticised Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, claiming that he is blocking the recognition of Spain’s co-official languages – Catalan, Basque and Galician – as official EU languages. “Italy’s Foreign Minister, whom you invite to your conferences,” Albares told the Congress of Deputies, addressing MPs from the People’s Party, “is currently one of the biggest obstacles to Catalan, Basque and Galician becoming official languages” in the EU, “have you criticised him for that? “I have. And have you reproached him for the fact that yesterday” Italy imposed “unworthy checks on Spaniards” which are “a disgrace?” “I have; will you?” “If Catalan, Basque and Galician are not yet official languages, it is because you are asking governments” – including your allies in the EPP – “to block it,” stated the Spanish Foreign Minister.
