Turin, 16 Sept. (LaPresse) – “Right now we need plenty of positivity; we’re very delighted that Mancini is back. I’m well aware of the situation I’ll be facing, because the summer has been extremely difficult for all of us, particularly due to our failure to qualify for the World Cup. It was very tough for me too to go through those days and watch the World Cup from the sidelines. Now, however, we must turn the page, regain our optimism and rebuild a strong squad. We can only do this by working together, thanks also to the support of the Italian public, which we’ll need right from the very first matches. We must hold our heads high and start afresh with this shirt, which I’m sure will give us the enthusiasm and motivation to tackle the upcoming matches and the qualifiers. We want to rewrite our history and qualify for the European Championship and the World Cup once again.” So said the captain of the Italian national team, Gianluigi Donnarumma, in an interview with Sky Sport. “Will the final of the next European Championship be played at Wembley? When you mention Wembley, you touch on something very important to me, because it’s linked to one of the most beautiful moments of my life, alongside the birth of my son. It’s an unforgettable memory, but there’s one image I want to remember above all else: the embrace between manager Mancini and Gianluca Vialli after the victory. It was a special and emotional moment, which showed just how important Gianluca was to us, to our squad and, above all, to his great friend Mancini,” he concluded. “I will always carry that image with me. I’m sure we can get back to performing well, qualify for the European Championship and the World Cup and, with manager Mancini, return to where Italy deserves to be.”
