Rome, Sept. 16 (LaPresse) – There are 21 Italian films competing for the designation of the title that will represent Italy in the selection for the International Feature Film Award category at the 99th Academy Awards. The Italian films that submitted their candidacy are those whose first theatrical release in Italy or another country, provided outside the United States and its territories, took place (or is scheduled to take place) between October 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026. The Selection Committee, established at Anica at the request of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will meet to vote and select the film on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The Academy is expected to announce the shortlists on December 15, 2026; the nominations will be announced on January 21, 2027, while the Oscars award ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 14, 2027.
