Certainly not that of, as some media outlets have misleadingly reported, ‘overwhelming’ the Rimini Prosecutor’s Office, toward which, despite different investigative approaches and views, esteem and respect have never been lacking. At this time, and given the state of the proceedings, there is nothing more to add. Then there will be time and opportunity to present every more appropriate argument to the judge called upon to decide on the proposed objection to the request for dismissal submitted by the public prosecutors.” This was stated by lawyer Fiorenzo Alessi, representing Marco Pantani’s mother, in response to the Rimini Prosecutor’s Office, which, regarding some alleged revelations by an inmate about the beating of the ‘Pirata’ on the same day his body was found, supplemented its request for dismissal of the case after conducting investigations. It will now be up to the preliminary investigations judge to decide whether to definitively close the file on the homicide or accept the requests of the family of the Romagna champion.
