Rome, Sept. 17 (LaPresse) – “As our president made clear yesterday, the proposed strengthening of our partnership with Canada is not against anyone, but in favor of our common strength.” EU Commission spokesperson Olof Gill said this in response to statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said that allowing Canada to become an associate member of the European Union could constitute a “hostile act”, and threatened to respond to such a proposal by imposing further tariffs on the bloc.
