Uffizi: water seepage following torrential downpour in Florence, no damage to artworks

Rome, 17 Sept. (LaPresse) – This afternoon, during the torrential downpour in Florence (over 45 millimetres in an hour), a small amount of water seeped in at the Uffizi Gallery beneath the skylight in the room housing seven 17th-century paintings, including Caravaggio’s ‘Bacchus’; the water splashed onto the outer glass of the protective display case housing ‘Bacchus’. Following the necessary checks, no damage was found to any of the works, the Gallery stated in a press release. The Gallery will be open as usual from its usual opening time tomorrow morning.
