This was stated by M5S leader Giuseppe Conte on the programme ‘Dritto e rovescio’ on Rete4, commenting on Elly Schlein’s letter to the Prime Minister. “I am, of course, speaking for myself. I took the initiative and proposed various forms of collaboration to this government. On the minimum wage, for example. I urged the other opposition parties, and in the height of summer we went to meet Meloni and the government at Chigi; she made a mockery of us and then, in effect, did nothing,” he explained. “She slammed the door in our faces by increasing Brunetta’s salary and the allowances for ministers and undersecretaries, whilst Italians are left in rags, exploited with underpaid labour. And then there are other forms of collaboration. We’ve been putting forward many proposals for four years now. And above all, today the conditions aren’t in place to even consider working together with those – the Meloni government – who, just the other day, said they want to carry out drilling,” he emphasised. “We’re talking about a return to oil; about those who have said they want to make Italy a hub for natural gas – yet have done nothing – and we’re still talking about fossil fuels. About those who, with eight ministerial decrees, have even allowed fuel prices and utility bills to soar, and have done absolutely nothing. Now, Meloni had better go home and let us get on with our work,” added Conte.
