(LaPresse) – “The alarm raised in recent days by the leading figures in artificial intelligence – from Dario Amodei of Anthropic to Sam Altman of OpenAI – signals that we are approaching a breaking point, as an acknowledgement that there is a grey area that even they would no longer be able to manage.” So said Alberto Barachini, Under-Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for information and publishing, in an interview with the *Corriere della Sera*. “I,” he adds, “am convinced that the big names in AI have finally realised that artificial intelligence can work to improve people’s lives, but investment must also be channelled in this direction. However, global regulation is needed; I believe we are not yet at the point of no return, but that a global alliance is necessary, involving all stakeholders, with everyone taking responsibility – this is a global conflict. We have heeded the appeals of the Pope, President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni; ‘artificial intelligence must be disarmed’, said Leo XIV.” Furthermore, in his view, “the dangers are there; it is undeniable. One need only look at the various cases of interference in the politics of different countries.”
