Milan, 18 Sept. (LaPresse) – The White House is considering the possibility of signing trade agreements with Russia before Moscow ceases hostilities in Ukraine. This is according to *The New York Times*, which cites two people close to the negotiations. In particular, a US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that agreements with Russia before the end of the war were possible, as they would demonstrate the United States’ seriousness in wanting to restart relations with Moscow. This week – the US newspaper reports – Congress approved a major sanctions bill targeting the Russian energy sector: a fresh attempt to make Russia ‘suffer’ for the invasion and to pressure Vladimir Putin into making compromises. However, just as the measure is about to reach the desk of US President Donald Trump, the US administration is firmly pursuing a different approach: offering Russia benefits which, according to officials, could persuade Putin to consider ending the war.
