Milan, 18 Sept. (LaPresse) – Cristiano Ronaldo has been called up to the Portuguese national team by new head coach Jorge Jesus for the upcoming Nations League matches. Ronaldo, now 41, had stated that last summer’s World Cup would be his last, but the world-famous star has not yet announced when he intends to retire from international football; he will be 43 by the time of the 2028 European Championships. This is the first squad announcement made by Jesus, who was appointed to replace the Spaniard Roberto Martinez following Portugal’s 1–0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup round of 16. Previously, Jesus managed Al-Nassr – the Saudi Arabian club where Ronaldo plays – winning the league title with him last season. Portugal will make their Nations League debut at home against Wales on 24 September; three days later they will face Norway away, play in Denmark on 1 October and finally host Norway again on 4 October.
