(LaPresse/AP) – The United Nations Security Council condemned the Houthi rocket attacks, saying the military escalation, attacks, and threats by the Houthis “risk further widening the conflict, threatening maritime security and international trade,” while undermining regional and international efforts to secure peace in Yemen. The UN Council warned that continued escalation will exacerbate the already dire humanitarian situation in the country. The Council’s 15 members also called for “concrete cooperation” to prevent the Iranian-backed Houthis from procuring weapons, military training, funding, and other military assistance needed to launch their attacks. The UN Council also stressed that all countries must enforce the UN arms embargo against the Yemeni group.
