(LaPresse) – “The limits will not apply to pupils who have attended nursery school and are starting Year 1, or to those who have successfully completed a few years of schooling, as it can be assumed that they have acquired a certain knowledge of Italian.” This was stated by the Minister for Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, in an interview with *Corriere della Sera*, regarding the government’s new measure on schools concerning the cap on the number of foreign pupils in classes. As for pupils with a European passport, Valditara emphasised that “the rules apply to them too”. The minister then returned to the speech delivered by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in Amatrice: “It was a wonderful speech. With his usual wisdom, Mattarella spoke in favour of a school system centred on respect, in line with constitutional values, which is capable of combating ‘ghetto’ classes.”
