Ankara (Turkey), 22 Sept. (LaPresse/AP) – The number of people injured in a shooting near a secondary school in northern Turkey has risen to 11, according to the authorities. The alleged perpetrator has been arrested. At least two of the injured are in a serious condition, said Justice Minister Akin Gurlek. The attack took place outside a vocational and technical college in the district of Turgutlu, in the province of Manisa. Police and emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. The HaberTurk television channel reported that the attacker is a pupil at the school. The young man arrived at the scene armed with a shotgun he had taken from his grandmother’s house and fired indiscriminately near the school before attempting to flee on foot. The motive for the attack, Gurlek added, is unknown. Two chief prosecutors have been appointed to lead the investigation, which will also look into allegations that the student had been a victim of bullying. The attacker’s parents and his grandfather, the owner of the weapon, have been detained.
