Rome, 23 Sept. (LaPresse) – The Selection Committee for the Italian film to be submitted to the Oscars, established by ANICA on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, met in the presence of a notary and comprised Giorgio Carlo Brugnoni, Cristina Comencini, Federica Lucisano, Francesco Melzi D’Eril and Niccolò Vivarelli, voted for Paolo Strippoli’s ‘L’Estranea’ as the film to represent Italy at the 99th Academy Awards, in the International Feature Film Award category, giving the following reason: “Because it is a fresh, genre-based film by a young filmmaker who has only recently embarked on his career and has been well received by audiences and critics both nationally and internationally.” *L’Estranea* will compete for a place on the shortlist comprising the fifteen best international films selected by the Academy, which is due to be announced on 15 December 2026. The announcement of the nominations (the shortlist of five films nominated for the award) is scheduled for 21 January 2027, whilst the Oscars ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on 14 March 2027.
