Rome, 23 Sept. (LaPresse) – “The need for meaningful investment has been reaffirmed, as this figure is the result of the country’s lack of growth; and in order to revive growth, we need intelligent, targeted investment. This is not the time to invest in weapons; it is the time to invest in public healthcare and in serious industrial policies that tackle the issues of energy saving and improving the quality of our country’s production system.” So said CGIL General Secretary Maurizio Landini at a press conference on initiatives marking the 120th anniversary of the trade union based on Corso d’Italia, commenting on the confirmation that the deficit stands at 3.1 per cent – a figure that prevents Italy from exiting the excessive deficit procedure. “In particular, we need to raise the money where it is by implementing a genuine tax reform that taxes unearned income and profits, reduces taxation on employees and pensioners, and is capable of reversing the current trend whereby people are unable to make ends meet and which is, in fact, leading to a sharp deterioration in people’s living and working conditions,” he added.
