A representative for the singer confirmed this in a statement to the Associated Press. Richie underwent a common procedure for atrial fibrillation (also known as A-fib), and the “doctor said everything went perfectly,” the statement read. “Lionel is doing well, but will take some time off and return to the stage soon.” The 77-year-old singer had already postponed two concerts in June after feeling ill. Furthermore, in August, reports spread online that he had been hospitalized following a performance in St. Louis. Richie was scheduled to perform with Earth, Wind & Fire on Saturday in San Francisco, on September 30 in Chicago, and on October 3 in Columbus, Ohio. According to his website, his “King of Hearts” concert series is currently scheduled to kick off at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas in October and November. An Academy Award and four-time Grammy Award winner, Richie began his career with the Commodores before establishing himself as a successful solo artist. In addition to famous hits like “Hello,” Richie co-wrote the iconic charity song “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson and has sold over 100 million records. He is also a judge on “American Idol.”
