Washington (USA), Sept. 23 (LaPresse) – Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that President Trump remains open to a deal with Tehran “that allows Iran to be what it should be: a great and prosperous country.” However, Rubio noted that this prospect is hindered by Iran’s insistence on “wanting to acquire nuclear weapons” and its “support for terrorism.” If this situation persists, Rubio added, Trump could consider “various options”, including further military action. Rubio also reported the existence of a “consensus” between the United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council regarding the “extremely problematic” attacks carried out by the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Rubio also reiterated the need for the Strait of Hormuz to remain “open and free from attacks.”
