Casablanca (Morocco), 24 Sept. (LaPresse/AP) – The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) has secured the largest number of seats in Morocco’s parliamentary elections. This is according to preliminary figures provided by the country’s Ministry of the Interior. By contrast, the ruling National Rally of Independents (RNI) has lost ground. PAM has secured 97 of the 395 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Moroccan Parliament. They are followed by the RNI with 66 seats and the Istiqlal Party with 65. The Justice and Development Party (PJD), a moderate Islamist party which had secured just 13 seats in 2021, has risen to 54. PAM and Istiqlal were part of the parliamentary majority that had formed the previous government led by the RNI. Voter turnout stood at 38 per cent, the lowest since 2007.
