Their role is to apply the law, and they continue to do so in accordance with the Constitution. The very Constitution he would have liked to change by placing judges under the executive and perhaps ordering them to ‘punish one to teach a hundred a lesson’.” So said Debora Serracchiani, the PD’s justice spokesperson, from the stage at the PD’s national conference on justice in Scandicci. “It is truly a disturbing way to represent, with honour and dignity, the important institutional role entrusted to him,” she added. “And perhaps it would be helpful if our Foreign Secretary were to remember once again that we are part of Europe and avoid certain demagogic and populist outbursts that bear a striking resemblance to the extremist and by no means moderate political forces that are gaining ground in other countries.”
