Rome, 28 Sept. (LaPresse) – A dramatic turn of events in the investigation into the Ustica air disaster: at the hearing on 30 September before the investigating magistrate at Piazzale Clodio, the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office is set to withdraw its request to dismiss the case following France’s agreement to hand over all documentation relating to the Itavia DC-9 disaster. The French Embassy has sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs proposing the transfer of the files, including documents from the Ministry of Defence that may relate to previous Italian letters rogatory. The file, which covers a period up to the 1990s, was forwarded by the Prime Minister’s Office to the Ministry of Justice and then to the Roman magistrates, to facilitate further investigations into the tragedy that claimed the lives of 81 passengers on board the Itavia DC-9.
